Happy Birthday America

I've always loved the fourth of July
from the time I was a young girl
running in races in my small Utah town,
winning a few coins for participating.

Then came the parades with floats,
clowns, marching bands and kids
riding their decorated bikes with red,
white and blue streamers displayed.
It was a time of fun family picnics,
rodeos or concerts, and fireworks

just sprinklers and firecrackers in
those days, but fun nevertheless.
Hot dogs, hamburgers, homemade
ice cream were my favorites. Now it's
KFC with fried chicken and salads
plus lots of ice cold watermelon.

Truly a fun way to celebrate our nation's
birthday, as we display our flags proudly.
Remembering all who gave their lives
in defending the freedoms of our country.
