We are FAMOUS...lol!

Our Poetry WORDSHOP group is famous. At least our photo is in the St. George Senior Center though our group is for all ages. We had two new poets join us who are in their 90s and still writing. Poetry is for everyone and a great stress reliever... Click to enlarge photo.

Daughters of Utah Pioneers

Display of DUP in our Community Center for clubs/groups

I've been a member of DUP for 25+ years now and its been fun to learn more about my pioneer ancestors. I joined DUP in 1996 after I married Allen and quit my fulltime job as an elementary school librarian in Provo, Utah. We moved to Roosevelt Utah where Allen was able to transfer his job in the Forest Service from New Mexico to Bureau of Indian Affairs in Fort Duchesne, Utah. It was a great time to join DUP as we were approaching several historic moments in Utah history. The sesquicentennial (150th)  anniversary of the pioneers reaching Utah territory in 1847 and the centennial anniversary of Utah's statehood in 1896.

Over the years, I've served as a Teacher of the history lessons, then as Captain of a camp that I started in New Harmony for five years, also Company Historian and Chaplain. It's been fun to also be a Docent in our local St. George museum. Now I'm Registrar and have been Scrapboook, Historian and Teacher of our local DUP Atkinville Camp. Fun Field Trip...

Our Daughters of Utah Pioneers took a fun field trip a week or so ago to a local pioneer home and it was so fun to step back in time.

Covington pioneer home in nearby Washington, Utah

Nicely maintained inside and out with a guide in costume.

Ten of our more than 50 members were able to attend.

Fun restored living room give an idea of life in those days

Our guide knew her history and shared it with us.

Later bathroom addition love that tub!

We all listened intently to the guide's true stories of those days.

Old fashion bed in small bedrooms were the norm

Fireplaces were the only way of heating the house in those days

Kitchen has been modernized with modern appliances.

Life story of Robert Gardener Utah pioneer

Cotton was grown, spung into yarn then made into clothes

Another fireplace to keep downstairs warm.

Kitchen cupboard had room for everything.

So important to preserve the past and honor the pioneers.
