Well, we just finished an exciting field trip to Little Petroglyph Canyon near China Lake Naval Base in Southern California with the Dixie Archaeology Club. A fascinating place, we saw myriads of petroglyphs as we walked along a dry creek bed. Lots of long horn sheep and other symbolic art carefully chiseled into the rocks. Click on bottom photo to see it larger.
Wow! Wonderful photos from your field trip. The petroglyphs are so interesting!
ReplyDeleteSuch great photos! Love the petroglyphs. Sounds like a really fun trip!
ReplyDeleteHave you guys ever climbed over to see the petroglyphs at Peter's Leap? Wayne and I were so surprised to find them completely unmarked... not trail to them.
ReplyDeleteDon't they just make you want to know what story the artist was telling us? We can only guess.
I bet you could put yourself into that time period and weave a great tale.
Another fun trip for you and Allen.
You two are really enjoying this retirement thing. I jsut may have to cave into it. Now would certainly be a good time to leave Real Estate.
Looks like you had a good time in the California desert.
ReplyDeleteI picked up a Senior Sampler at a small grocery store in Arizona and found you inside with your article about family occupations. Well done.
Wow! Very interesting. I'd love to see some California petroglyphs.
ReplyDeleteLin,
ReplyDeleteThis must have been amazing. They are so immediate though they are ancient.
Really enjoyed this post with photos of the stone pictures. I wonder how they manage to keep the kids with cans of spray paint away?!
