Frustration and Solutions

I've been totally frustrated trying to organize our poetry booklet of 60+ poems and keep everyone happy-including myself. But what has really thrown me is how to print it off. The more I thought about it, the more frustrated I got so much so that my brain started to close down. Then an answer to prayer came to contact a neighbor of mine who does the church directory that is the same size as our poetry booklet and is stapled together.

We've decided to do 200 copies instead of 300 which helps relieve some pressure, but that's still a ton of paper and work. At our Writer's Wordshop last Monday we decided to print it double sided to save paper but I couldn't figure out how to put that on the computer (two half pages to a 8.5 X 11 sheet of paper) with page numbers and have it come out printed back to back in order. Just try thinking through that for a little while. But after talking to my neighbor, he said he didn't know how to do it either but had a computer file that was set up for printing it off correctly. He emailed me the file and it seems to be working. Amazing, there is always some solution if you don't give up.

Tell us about some problem you've solved lately, besides who is going to make the best president. Thanks Leona for ASAP-always say a prayer. He does answer...

  2. That does sound like a huge task, but how wonderful are those books going to be when you get them done..

  3. Taht'a my girl! I KNOW you can do this.

Interesting how a project can go through so many growing pains, isn't it? I really can't wait to see the end result. Tell me...is this going to be an annual publication?

  5. What a feeling of accomplishment to problem solve and then get a solution. Good for you. Some people won't ask for help.

  6. Lin, You asked for feedback about solving some problem.

I cut out a lot of my filing problems by storing much of my information in binders instead of files. For me, putting a piece of paper into a file folder inside a drawer makes it forever invisible to me.

So I buy binders and plastic sleeves to store what I think "need" to keep. Out on the shelf, with a properly labeled spine, I am easily reminded of what information I do have. It's helped to me cull out the stuff I really don't need (because every page needs a sleeve). Somehow putting it into a sleeve helps me think about whether it's necessary.

I put all my draft books into binders as well, even if all I have is a few pages of notes and research. I also give it a working title page -- I jazz it up as with clipart to make it feel more like a book cover. That has really helped keep things together, and it makes me feel more like I'm working on a book, not just playing with paper.

    Hope that ignites inspiration!
