Red, the color of blood flowing
in the fight for liberty and peace.
White for purity of purpose,
courage asked of new soldiers.
Blue sky, empty of clouds
as guns stop, surrender comes.
Some return maimed by battle,
minds or limbs missing. Fighting
their own personal wars. Struggling
to erase memories of atrocities.
Again and again, we fight new wars
under the same flag to rescue others.
The results…repeated, many return
with honor their caskets draped with
the flag of valor: red, white and blue.
