Road Runners

Busy running in every direction but up,
looking for food to gobble takes energy
but is a daily necessity for this little guy.
The first roadrunner I ever saw was in
the Looney Tunes cartoons of my childhood.

Old Wiley E. Coyote was always chasing a silly roadrunner but never catching him. Crazy things happened to the coyote who had an unfortunate life, but that's not how it really is. The roadrunners I have seen in Texas and in St. George are very quiet.

They live in warm climates and like small
insects to eat-crickets, grasshoppers, spiders
plus lizards and prickly pear cactus fruit.

A long legged slender bird, he's a cuckoo,
can fly a little but runs faster almost 20 mph,
likes dry open country with scattered brush,
mating for life, he settles down and helps his
Mrs. sit on their eggs during the cold nights.
He never says beep, beep like the cartoons.
