Prairie Dog village

At Jackalope's shopping area, they have a large prairie dog village. It was so fun watching the little animals eating their sunflower seeds, grains and alfalfa. They really had it made-the easy life: eat, drink and dig holes in the cool earth to escape the heat.

  1. There are a lot of Southern Utah people who would disagree about the "cuteness" of prairie dogs. They have taken over the Cedar City golf course, making new holes, stealing golf balls, and causing all kinds of problems.

However, I'm glad you are enjoying your holiday and the time spent with your son's family.

  2. I agree... we have prarie dogs, marmots and other "cute" little rodents that are driving us completely nuts.

Only in the city would they build such a place. But, it looks like the kids enjoy it.

I still think Bambi's "Cute" and like seeing him in my yard... Altough I am a wee bit tired of sharing my fruit and flower gardens with him. We still keep salt licks and an easy water source for them. I still think it's almost mystical watching the deer grazing near the trees, and watering at the small creek at dusk. But, when I walk out into the fields in the morning and see the tree trunks shredded and the Verbascum broken and trampled... it does lose some of the magic. I've decided just to plant enough for all of us to enjoy however we enjoy it best.

  3. My son says those prairie dogs are a real nuisance for New Mexicans but I thought they were adorable, too. Awwww...

  7. Prairie dogs? Ummmmm...... sounds like I might want to keep my trusty hedge-clippers and terry cloth slippers handy -- just in case.

The trip sounds wonderful, keep enjoying yourselves. Hugs to the grands.

  8. Prairie dogs are protected in NM. since we are the ones who take over their land, as we expand they are re-located.. food for a thought, who is taking over whom? Mom great photos again, they are very cute, my son and the prairie dogs :)
