Cruising Cemeteries

Our car's license plate says...."Genealogists collect dead relatives" so where else to look for them but in a cemetery. Of course it helps if you know which town and state the cemetery is in, then which cemetery in that location. If you have a map of the cemetery you are very lucky. There is a great website that will help you find your ancestor's final resting place called www.findagrave.com try it sometime. Without leaving your home, you can find valuable information. Many times they have already posted a headstone of your family member or will take a photo for you.

We spent quite a bit of time walking all over the Gatesville Texas City Cemetery before we located my husband's family's headstones. Seems in all the years he spent in this town they never visited his great grandparents graves on Memorial Day. Finding a headstone gives you some important genealogical info as to date of birth and death plus other family members buried nearby.

  1. I use Find-a-Grave a lot. I need to go back to Texas and spend some time in a country cemetery where no one from Find-A-Grave has been.

  4. It isn't any wonder that Allen likes to visit Texas. His family is deeply rooted there. I had no idea how deeply rooted.

This sounds like it's been a fun, fun trip! You and your hubby both look relaxed and fit. As a matter of fact... you're looking REALLY small. Good for you!

You've missed out on some cold, nasty days... even in St.George. Be happy that you've been gone. It's starting to be nice again. A beautiful day today!

Hope to have you back home safe and sound soon.

  6. I have some rubbings of headstones from the cemetery where my grandfather's family lived for many years.. not too many hours away from where I live now. I would love to go back...
