Saying Goodbye

(This poem is dedicated to another aunt, Lucille, who died last Monday and to her husband Weston, my only uncle who remains. See her complete obituary at Deseret News.)

Saying goodbye isn’t forever
Just a brief separation for now
A still lifeless form once so active
Witnesses your spirit’s absence

Released to go home
No words come from your lips
The time for talking is over
For our daily little interactions

Though I feel you nearby
Our love continues to grow
During this necessary separation
Someday I will join with you

But for now, your memory lingers
Our love is stronger than ever
How wonderful that this isn’t
Goodbye forever, but only for now
