one summer day, it doesn’t take
long until the insects find us.
Wanting to check out our cake
and buzz over the fried chicken
then a drinking cup filled with fizz.
You can almost hear a bee say,
Oh this looks good or maybe this.
You can try swatting at them,
but do it, oh so carefully,
or you might get stung and
end your eating quickly.
If you share your food
or just ignore the pest
you’ll be happier I’m sure.
Just let him be YOUR guest.
Remember bees are helpful,
making honey, causing flowers
to bloom and fruit to grow.

Living outside, bees are real picnickers.
The bees were a challenge where I was working in Illinois. We had kids getting stung quite a bit. One child was running with her mouth open and the bee actually went into her mouth. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's hard to remember that insects and other less than cute creatures have a real place in nature's plan. I'm all for the flowers blooming!
ReplyDeleteHi Lin, Thanks for stopping by my place. I was just browsing your food blog.... didn't realize you were connected to one. Enjoyed looking around and finding some good ideas.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your story about your encounter with the woman who needed a helping hand filling in her form. Like you, I desire to be more aware of the opportunities that are all around to share His love and kindness with others.
Happy Day!
My son never thinks twice in picking up any insect in sight...gets me worried what if he approaches a bee...hmmm.
ReplyDeleteThat was a fun lesson! I enjoyed it, Lin.
ReplyDeleteLove the little story today. Even though insects are annoying we certainly do need them! The bees are what give us such glorious colors in our gardens. Something so tiny can certainly give us something very big!
ReplyDeleteThey are good pollinators aren't they? I give the cranky fall yellow jackets plenty of space though...
