Road Runners

Busy running in every direction but up,
looking for food to gobble takes energy
but is a daily necessity for this little guy.
The first roadrunner I ever saw was in
the Looney Tunes cartoons of my childhood.

Old Wiley E. Coyote was always chasing a silly roadrunner but never catching him. Crazy things happened to the coyote who had an unfortunate life, but that's not how it really is. The roadrunners I have seen in Texas and in St. George are very quiet.

They live in warm climates and like small
insects to eat-crickets, grasshoppers, spiders
plus lizards and prickly pear cactus fruit.

A long legged slender bird, he's a cuckoo,
can fly a little but runs faster almost 20 mph,
likes dry open country with scattered brush,
mating for life, he settles down and helps his
Mrs. sit on their eggs during the cold nights.
He never says beep, beep like the cartoons.

More Shadows

Joining a local camera club has improved by awareness
as I look more carefully at my daily life even in the kitchen.
These shadows from my venetian blinds are intriguing,
giving a different perspective and mood to the familiar.

Life is changed somehow into something different,
it reminds me of facades that people put on
to impress others temporally until reality returns.
Then it's time to react or take action to new perspectives.

Today would have been my mom's 91st birthday...

Remembering Why we CELEBRATE

Christmastime brings too many EXPECTATIONS,
presents we want to receive or give to others,
extended family celebrations that don't happen,
too much STRESS, and worrying over dumb things.

We forget WHY we are celebrating, it's not just
a holiday but a HOLY day that HE was born.
A MIRACLE as the age old story is recalled:
a virgin conceives a holy child named JESUS.

He grows to manhood, HEALS multitudes
TEACHES and CONVERTS many, is still remembered
two centuries later throughout many lands
and REVERED in the Christian churches of today.

The SON of GOD, angels foretold His humble birth
Shepherds and wiseman visited, TESTIFIED of Him.
Yet many today don't believe His SACRED words
or HONOR His significance to our everyday lives.

A man of LOVE, integrity and service whose life
serves as a great EXAMPLE of how to treat others.
He loved unconditionally and gave His life that
we could LIVE again with God-His Father and ours.
