Veterans Day

Somehow I always equate the word Veterans with WWII and not the Vietnam or Gulf War. But a veteran is anyone who serves our country and puts their own lives at risk whether defending our country or following the orders of his leaders. I've never had any of my four sons serve in the military but I can just imagine the worry and heartbreak that accompany that event. Let us all be thankful today and always for those who serve and protect our FREEDOMS. (Photo of me about age 3, and my uncle Weston who served in the Army in WWII.)

  1. My father and brother never served in the military. In fact, it was only Uncle George who was a dentist-captain in the army and served in West Germany. He returned to the USA with a German wife.

  2. Here, here!! I'll certainly raise my glass to all of those who've spent any part of their lives in the military...those who've been called to active duty and those who haven't. Those who have waited anxiously at home for word from their loved ones stationed in battle areas, and those who have been lonely and carried on raising five children alone while their husbands trained to be officers, preparing for their time to serve wherever they are called to serve.

BTW: Have I ever mentioned what a cute little toot you were? er, um, ahhh...are.

  3. Ah...mom/caryn said it well! I am proud of my husband who spent 20 years in the military and came from a military family. I find it sad though that today just seems to be a day off for many and a big sales day event...

  4. My hat's off (and heart's full of gratitude) to all those who stand between us and those who would do us harm. My father (who passed away in 2007) and my father-in-law (who is still going strong) both served in the Navy. Hubby missed being drafted during the Viet Nam war because of his trials with ashma, but we lost some friends and classmates there.

It is a day to remember and be thankful.

  5. Amen, Lin. That kind of service is an admirable kind of love.

Your eyes distinguish you even as this little girl!
