Rocky Roads

Impressions float before our eyes,
everyone is happier than we are
more content, and better off.
But when the blinders come down,
we discover we all have
our own bumpy roads to travel.
Some are better at hiding their distress.

Envy gets us nowhere, but more
gratitude opens us to blessings.
Opportunities hopefully await us
just around the next bend.
As our Father watches our progress,
He knows before hand which trials
are needed in our lives and when.

  1. Very motivating !!I know i will always gain something whenever i visit you. Thanks LIN !!

  2. 'Tis true! Bumpy roads and a loving Heavenly Father who will guide our steps as we travel.

  3. Excellent poem, Lin, with an excellent message.

  4. You write beautiful poetry filled with a truth:) We all have our bumpy roads to take--mine is a bit worse than I wanted right now!!lol

  5. Nicely done; I especially like the first stanza.

  6. Beautiful poem Lin. I always take something away from your poetry.

  7. I remember a few years ago thinking that my brother and sister-in-law had the "Norman Rockwell" life and being just a tad envious of them.

After spending several gut wrenching hours sharing secret heartaches with my sister-in-law I was amazed at how much she envied my life... and what good reason she had to wish for much of what I was blessed with. It was a "Whew. glad I'm not her" moment that brought me to my knees to give thanks for the home, husband, children, and health that were/are mine to enjoy.

    Another great insight, my friend.

  8. So true.. You never know what someone else is dealing with and that is why we should always be thoughtful.... Michelle
