HAPPY BIRTHDAY Jeffrey

Born on a Swedish holiday-St. Lucia day, Jeffrey was my last son of four, born in Provo, Utah where his oldest brother was born. Jeff still lives in Utah Valley with his family- close enough to visit now and then. He is now 42 which is how old I was when he was born.

CHRISTMAS is COMING...

Today I discovered this old and I do mean old photo of me with Santa. Probably taken when I was 6 years old in the 1940s at ZCMI in SLC. My father had been killed in an airplane accident the year before and I bet if Santa asked me what I wanted, I would have said to have my father back. Still waiting for that day and our reunion in the future.

Daughters of Utah Pioneers LECTURE

Spent a fun Saturday morning with hubby at our DUP Museum in town for a fascinating lecture by a very talented Navaho weaver, author and grandmother GINNY SPARKS who was born and raised on the reservation, and spent time in BIA Indian schools. She shared her lifestyle growing up with us.So interesting! We ended this fun day together with lunch at our favorite Mexican restaurant in town Paulas.
A beautiful small rug she is weaving for her grand dg.
She does it all from processing the wool, dying
it different colors then spinning it all by hand.
As a fifth generation Navaho, she shared her  beliefs &
unique lifestyle, attended college-became a nurse. Now
writes children's books about her life to share her journey.

JUNE and SUMMER is really here

Lots going on as SUMMER arrives in full strength 108+ degrees. Mostly hiding inside near the AC but also celebrating FATHER'S DAY and having my youngest son Jeff visit. We had a great time attending the St. George Temple to do endowments for his dad's Swedish ancestors then the next day going to the Red Cliffs Temple to do sealings for some of those ancestors of his. A wonderful spiritual time together. Reminded me of when I was finally sealed to my family. We loved wandering through both temples and just taking in the beauty and spirit of these edifices.

St. George Temple is majestic inside and outside

We now have two temples locally-Red Cliffs Temple

Love the palm trees at both temples

It's MAY DAY again!

Celebrating LABOR UNIONS today, but how about all the MOTHERS who are the original labor unions throughout history and in all species. Love watching our hummingbird momma building her nest on our wind chime and other places. SPRING is growing, nurturing time for all species who couldn't do it without MOTHERS. Here's a momma Robin surprised by her three fledglings from photos taken in past in our back patio.

Time to REPLANT

Every year some of our plants/shrubs don't make it through the winter or through the crazy trimmings our HOA landscaping crew give them to make them all look like round lumps. But that's the price you pay for being retired and living in a community that provides your landscaping pruning/irrigation needs. So hubby is replanting some dead plants or misshapen ones.

This pruned or mutilated cactus looks like a pineapple now.

It's hard work digging out the old plant first.

A real perfectionist planting a new Hawthorne bush takes awhile.

Love all the blooming cacti

Amazing how these blooms return each year.
