Looking Back at High School

Photo from classmates.com of our yearbook Pylon 1957.

I have twin grand daughters graduating from high school this May. Today I clicked on a link to look back at my old high school Leuzinger's yearbook in Lawndale, California at my life as a Junior. I just remember being skinny, tall and hiding my glasses that helped me see the blackboard. I had lots of girl friends during those years and was active in many different clubs and groups, but didn't have a social life or a boyfriend. I remember being shy and feeling awkward around others even though I started taking ballet lessons when I was 15 and performed in many productions. Finding me and my self confidence is a trip I'm still on.

Yet I'm amazed at all I did during those formative years. I joined Corp de Ballet-a performing dance group that was in several school productions, was a  life member of the California Scholarship Society, Formulators-chemistry club, Radio Broadcasting-we played music for lunch hour, Educators-students interested in teaching, Bowling club-met weekly for bowling, and I was on the winning Basketball girl's team and also played Field hockey, and Volleyball. Amazing to look back at yourself almost 60 years ago. Here's a photo of me L. Vernon in the front row of the basketball team on the right. Notice we wore dresses or skirts to school everyday. Tell us about your memories of you as a Junior in high school.

  3. I began to overcome my shyness and insecurity after age 40. I thin k I was just tired of taking a back seat. In highschool I was pretty much invisible.
