Fun Workshop

I co-chaired with Marilyn Richardson a Write A Day Away workshop for our local writers group yesterday. How fun was that? We had 13 people total that attended with 6 different teachers. Our 45 minute sessions included instruction, writing exercises and sharing. Sessions were given on: "Writing Morning Pages" by Beth Moore, "Clustering to Break Dead Ends" by Lin Floyd, "Writing Poetry-Yes You Can" by Marilyn Ball, "Fiction and Non-fiction: Building Sand Castles" by Dorothy Varney. Next was lunch followed by sessions on: "Mixed Metaphors" by Virginia Grenier and ending with "Better Character Descriptions" by Marilyn Richardson. An enriching, stimulating day of exploring the written word with other talented writers. Also attending were: Leisa Hafen, Ann Kearns, Rosemarie Pritchard, Mary Sagers, and Marie Tollstrup. We were hosted by Caroll Shreeve-our HWG Heritage Writer's Guild President.

  1. Keep that writing passion going, Lin! And to share it with others is a win/win situation. Kudos!

  2. This workshop reminds me of the Bay Area Writing Project, in which I participated (in Maine) many years ago. We learned so many strategies for writing. I considered...and still consider...the most valuable of all being that of sharing one's writing with others. What a pity that too many students even today write only for their teachers. If they'd write for their peers, they'd become much more motivated and imaginative.

  6. It is nice to be writing. I wonder about today's youth and their constant texting...I don't know that they will be able to really write...
