Touch of FALL

We finally have our monsoon clouds with a promise of coolness in the air. Fall is getting closer although our temperatures are still above 100 degrees each day. No measurable rain yet but there have been flash floods within 20 miles of us as sudden downpours overwhelm small gullies and dry stream beds. Kind of like LIFE at times.

I'm reading another book by Julia Cameron of "Artist's Way" fame-it's #3 in the series entitled "FINDING WATER: The Art of PERSERVERANCE." Wow-just what I needed at this thirsty time of my life-the title says it all. Wonderful thoughts, quotes and suggestions for tapping back into the wellspring of our lives:

(1) Writing daily MORNING PAGES to get out on paper all the negative thoughts/voices that run rampant in our heads and stop us from tuning ourselves to our Creator and quiet inner voices that can give inspiration and guidance to our lives. (2) ARTIST DATES-weekly solo expeditions of adventure to pursue interests or find new ideas/interests to add to our life. Just those two principles are enough to give me HOPE to continue the journey as I have been so weighed down by the PAST and unresolved emotions/situations lately.

Some memorable quotes: "We never know the worth of water till the well is dry." English proverb; "Take care of each moment and you will take care of all time." Buddha; and "Every moment of one's existence one is growing into more or retreating into less. One is always living a little more or dying a little bit." Norman Mailer.

  1. Omaheck... now I have to buy the book. I'm obviously acquainted with so much of this as I've done the Artist's Way Seminar twice... but, the quotes are each polished gems, and "morning pages" and " artist dates" are well worth a re-read and recommitment effort.

Good post, Lin. Hope you're having an upbeat day cooking healthy goodies and doin the hula.
    Love ya!

  2. believe me...I do read your blog....I just don't always know what to say, or how. Perhaps it's because you are a deep thinker and I am more fluff and stuff. But it's always enjoyable to read you. And I guess I write for me...not for comments...so perhaps I oughta stop that option....but I won't. Cuz often I learn more in the comments than what i write. But you keep it up. It's always well done. oh, and btw...I do not do poems. That's Jocelyn's area of expertise.

  4. It looks like a good book:) I like that you write things out each morning--I do that with my journal and it does help me sort through issues that otherwise want to run my day:)

  5. Oh I hope you feel better right now. I know that I am looking forward to getting back to volunteering because it gets me out and focused on others instead of me. Stitches come out Fri. Better days are coming.
