Growing Older

I'm taking a class on exercise and diet
as it relates to metabolism and health.
Today as I tried to balance on a ball
I caught myself looking in the mirror
at my aging body and my condition.

I am no longer the young physically fit
dancer with the world ahead of me but I'm
nearing the end of my journey in this life.
As my younger husband loves to tell me...
"We aren't getting any younger." It's true.

I can no longer do situps or pushups or
even dance as I once did so easily. That
brought tears to my eyes but it doesn't
help anything get better. I must resolve
to pursue improving my condition daily.

  1. And you need to remember that in 10 years you'll look back and marvel at how young you looked, and be impressed by all the things you could do at 70.

Funny how that works. We just need to do what we can to make the best of where we are right now. Thanks for reminding us.

  2. We may be looking older on the outside, but we stay young inside, and that’s what is important. I read your last few posts. I lived in San Francisco during the 60s and don’t think the Hippies were a problem, unless one did drugs – we did not. We enjoyed the dynamism, the hope, the love and I think we changed a few things. I wrote several posts on this, you can look at my last one on this subject if you like : http://avagabonde.blogspot.com/2010/05/visiting-our-friends-from-60s-at-farm.html

  3. I have those same feelings sometimes. And then other times I'm going along enjoying myself and actually forget how old and out of shape I am. Just keep moving and have fun along the way.

  4. I agree with Jo above. And we really must keep plugging away at it. It's the only way to stay active as long as possible.

  6. I know everybody says they're feeling exactly as they did when they were 16. My mom says that, too. However, I feel like I am a bit different. I don't think I'm just the same. I do think I feel differently. When I've read the diary I kept as a teenager I marvel at how different I sounded.

  7. As life changes, so does our body. To love and accept that is everything.
