Navaho land

After Flagstaff, it was time to cross the barren Navaho reservation.
I always find beauty in the stark rock formations in this desert area.

Then through Page, Arizona and by Lake Powell.
Now we're in UTAH and home again.

  1. Stunning photos. They make me want to see that area of our country again. Here in Maine we're getting a sleety-rain this evening.

  4. I have to admit that I only appreciate the stark beauty that can be found in areas like this on occasion. I'm a mountain/seaside beauty kind of gal.

It is pretty early in the morning when the sun hits the hills and casts interesting shadows and brings out the varied colors. It can be pretty at dusk, and when the scant foliage is truly green and offers contrast to the shades of white, brown, red, yellow that covers the rocks.

Your photos display some of that extremely well.

But, I'd still rather peel a juicy iorange and enjoy it by a stream under some quakies, or walk barefoot in warm sand and watch the seabirds chase the tide.
Cactus flowers are beautiful, but they just don't compare with hydrangeas, oriental lillies, and delphiniums.

This is only one gal's opinion...
and I don't know why I'm just a tad embarrased about it. Maybe because I think my mother would find it unseemly not to LOVE ALL of God's creations equally.

  7. I feel badly for the conditions on many if not all reservations.
