In honor of groundhog day

NUTTY SQUIRRELS by Lin Floyd

Running up and down trees,
some can even fly between.
They scurry and hurry looking
for food to eat or store unseen.
With long bushy tails, they like
to beg and will eat anything.

They may not eat it now,
but pack it away for a later day.
Their cousins are the chipmunk,
prairie dogs, and groundhogs.
Favorite foods are nuts, junk
and anything that’s munchy.

  1. One time my suet cage mysteriously disappeared. While out walking one day, I found it, with suet still inside, in the road. A squirrel had stolen it and carted it off . They're clever little rascals!

  2. A cute little poem for sure! I too have had a "squirrel bandit". Years ago one of the large feeders disappeared overnight, never to be found again!
