Just say no

but do it politely...regardless of what you think, YOU CAN'T DO IT ALL! There's comes a time when you realize that. Unfortunately, it's usually when you have matured or aged. Being retired also unfortunately includes being tired a lot. You don't have the energy you had when you were younger so it's important to pick and choose how you use your TIME. Someone called me the other day from the DUP (Daughters of Utah Pioneers) locally and wanted me to be the Company Chaplain. She said there's only a few meetings you'd have to come to, but I know better having served in that volunteer position years ago. So I politely thanked her and told her I was trying to FOCUS my time on WRITING these days. What a relief!

Somedays I have several choices of things to do, all good but I have to analyze what is BETTER for me and what would the BEST use of my time. It's a tie sometimes. Wednesday I had water aerobics and a computer class at the same time. Well, the computer class won out cause it wouldn't be repeated and the exercise for that day was walking instead. Seems to me life is a series of DECISIONS every moment-what to say, think, pray about, do, etc. Those LITTLE decisions influence who we are becoming and the good we can do in the world. It's about PRIORITIES. What are yours?

  1. I had a wake up call about priorities this week! Michael and I were asked to speak at church tomorrow and as I prepared for my talk I realized my priorities were a little out of order!!

  2. Right now I have several things calling to me. But I have decided the priority at this minute is to respond to your blog. We all need support and encouragement, and to me, that means commenting of the blogs of my faithful readers.
I have felt the message of "we can't do it all" over the situation in Haiti. I have donated, and as the pleas keep coming I have to resist the urge to do more. I was very generous with donations during the holiday season, and now I have to get spending back in line. I have to set priorities. And yet it still feels selfish sometimes.

  3. Ah, priorities. To stick to them is to keep them simple. To make them your family (including yourself) is to be loyal. Lovely post, Lin.

  4. Wonderful post Lin. I think the prior commenters each "said" alot of what I felt about this. My priorities have always been my family first, then others, and lastly myself. I know I have got to take a stand and get myself somewhere at the "front of the line" but it is so hard to do, I feel very selfish if I do so. But I will keep trying!

  5. You sound like a busy woman and wise to say no to too much:) I try hard to say no--it does get easier these days--as I age. LOL But I also say try to say yes as well to opportunities that I think God would have me do. Have a wonderful holiday!

  6. My priority should be eating better, going back to physical therapy and taking care of myself and I have been saying that for a while now..
