Children's Poems

For some reason I got an idea for a poem for children while on vacation. Here it is:

THE MONARCH

Wiggly little caterpillar,
what would happen
if you got the giggles
or happened to tickle
another slow mover
who is just like you.

It won’t be long now
till you wrap yourself up
into a tight cozy cocoon,
only to take a long nap
then later emerge as a
glorious beautiful butterfly.

You’ll spread your new wings,
find friends just like yourself
and fly many long miles
to a warmer place somewhere
down south, near Texas or Mexico.
What a fun adventure you'll have then.

  2. I like this poem so much! Yesterday while walking the dog, we stopped and checked on a couple of caterpillars working away on Queen Anne's lace. Brought back sweet memories of autums when my three children were young, we would put a caterpillar into a big jar with holes in the lid, feeding it milkweed leaves and watch the miracle of a butterfly emerge! And how tickled the kids would be when the new butterfly left us, off to a warmer climate.

  3. I like this. You have the gift, Lin. I wish Eric Carle would illustrate this gem!
