Mosquitoes

Vacationtime in the vast wilderness
of Northern Idaho-Sandpointe.
Discovering pesty little insects,
tiny persistent creatures
not quiet, buzzing in my ears.
I’m going to get you...
Reminding me of the necessity
of opposition in my life.

Lest I get complacent and lazy,
they appear suddenly around me.
Keeping me busy swatting
and trying to squash them.
One of the few of God’s creatures
seemingly without purpose,
except to fex the peace of
my nature experience today.

Now I have souvenirs of their visit,
tiny little red bumps all over me
that itch like crazy despite my bugspray.
First one appears here-then another there,
till I am quite covered with little lumps.
I will remember these mosquitoes long
after they have died, as I try not to itch.
That only makes it worse...ah, nature.

  2. Sometimes nature BITES! I think pests like mosquitoes, ticks, fleas, chiggers, etc. belong to the insect taliban. :-)

  3. Mosquitos are so bad, plus they carry so many illnesss. I am from Puerto Rico and we have to sleep with mosquito nets at night in order to sleep comfortably.

P.S. I am Susan Hatch friend from church. I truly enjoy your blog, I have been checking it out for months now.

  4. grrrrr... I can see as much reason for mosquitos as I can for having an avacado seed be the size of a Volkswagon. Neither thing makes any sense to me!

Sorry about the polka dots on your skin.

  7. ...and what makes it "worse-er" is hearing a mosquito buzzing in one's bedroom in the middle of the night!

  8. What a fun look at those interesting critters! We haven't spotted any this summer so far (probably because it's been so dry)......

In response to Jean's comment, here's a quote I just found today about the topic...... "If you think you're too small to have an impact, try going to sleep with a mosquito in the room." Ha ha

  9. I don't know if it's just a legend but somebody told me a long long time ago that at one time we only had singing mosquitoes that did NOT bite. Then an angry sea captain decided to get revenge on some poor Hawaiian person and unleashed the biting mosquito to the islands. It's terrible revenge because after termites, I HATE mosquitoes the most.
