Released

This poem is dedicated to one of writers in our WORDshop Karole Morrell who died of cancer a week ago. She is a very special person who will remain in our thoughts and hearts till we meet again.

RELEASED

A small balloon filled with helium
Is accidentally released
From the young child’s grasp

It climbs higher and higher
In the cloudless blue sky
Until it disappears from sight

Swallowed by the universe
Part of the unknown mystery
Of what lies beyond

So too, death's transition comes
As the released spirit
Escapes the earthly body

Ascends through mists of darkness
That hide the glory of heaven
And protect our very existence
