Mother's Day

It's that time of year Mother's day
when most of us women feel guilty
that we weren't the perfect parent
that we had planned to be as a young
girl playing house with our dolls.

But let it be instead, a joyous time
of celebration for those memories
we hold dear...times of nurturing
kissing away hurts, teaching and
tears as we struggled to raise them.

Let us also smile quietly as we
watch our offspring with their kids
struggle as we once did, not knowing
the correct answers or effective methods
but doing their best as parents anyway.

It was a great education and process
learning to become a parent and then
being able to let go and encourage our
little ones barely able to walk alone
take off on their own individual journeys.

  2. I had a cousin who had four kids who remarked to me with each one she had the niggling feeling there was another, better way. How we torture ourselves!

    Great thought, Lin. Thanks.
