Another Surprise

But this one was not welcome,
a diagnosis of diabetes type two.
Oh no, I say as visions of sugarplums
dance and disappear in my dreams.

How can I survive not eating
my favorite chocolates, pies, cakes,
cookies, and most of all ice cream?
It's possible to still eat them but only
in wisdom and moderation.

Maybe this is a blessing in disguise?
Being forced to consume calories
with my improved health in mind.
I could learn to love raw vegetables.
Fat chance-maybe loose some weight?

I wouldn't mind, my new regime
is to eat smarter, exercise more and
be healthier. All do-able with a lot of
will power and dedication each day.

  1. Sorry to hear of the diagnosis, but I suspect you will keep to your resolve and be much healthier, as a result. I've just enrolled in a workout class three days a week and am already feeling the benefits.

  2. I'm also sorry about this diagnosis. But it sounds like you can manage it with diet. That's a good thing. And I bet you're right...you probably will improve your general health. Good luck!

  4. Your news was rather startling to me. I just had the two hour gloucose tollerance test this morning. Results are pending. While I am sorry for your diagnosis, I really hope mine is different. Please. I must have chocolate!

  5. Hey Mom!

Sorry to hear! Rachel says be careful with your feet. If they get hurt it is hard for them to heal, so you have to get them taken care of quickly if they do get hurt. Anyway my suggestion is maybe to let Allen the health-food guru do the shopping if needed. =)

    Love,
    Jeff

  6. I like your attitude, girl. There are all kinds of things that are better than chocolate.

    Baby hugs
Holding hand with your hubby in bed
White peaches fresh from the tree
    Home made applesauce
Laughing to the point of hysteria
    Being published
    Warms socks on cold feet
    Foot massages
    Wearing pants two sizes smaller

Just fill your life up with other good stuff. And if some inconsiderate schmuck eats chocolate in front of you...slap em silly.

  7. Sorry about that, Lin. I hope you'll be OK. And that those veggies will take on some new appeal, somehow.

  8. From what I've read in your posts, Lin, I know that you'll be able to handle this hurdle beautifully. I was taken aback when I got told the same thing. It's amazing how it is possible to watch what you eat. I'm still working on the exercise part.

  10. I am so sorry to hear about the diabetes diagnosis. Also wish you well with the treatment (I won't call it a diet) as I know the wonders it can work. A couple of times I was away care-giving was to help my mom 1)when she was first diagnosed, and 2)when she started losing weight and got scared.

It took a lot of convincing from me and her doctor that every single pound she lost from her mere 4 ft. 9 in. frame was 'good'. She had gotten to over 2oo lbs. and was used to it. The new (correct) way of eating didn't sit well with her, said the food tasted like typing paper, no taste. And, on and on and on. I persisted, she's maintaining a steady weight now, still doesn't like the fact though that she needed to lose the weight.

You, on the other hand, have a firm grasp on reality. I know you will do this, BECAUSE YOU CAN. You are Lin, the 'do-er'.
