Books are...

the quietest and most constant of friends, they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers––Charles W. Eliot

Q: What kinds of books do you read and why? What satisfactions do you get from reading?

A: I like to read non fiction books usually self help type-how to write better, build relationships, etc. I love to read church history books or biographies to understand why people lived as they did. Right now I am reading/studying some spiritual topics on www.lds.org related to my Mormon religion to find out more about the next life-the spirit world. It's fascinating to me and they have the scriptures online.

Now it's your turn:

  1. I too love books, but our interests are very different. I love fiction. At least we would never be in competition at the library or Barnes and Noble.

  3. I read political non-fiction and entertaining fiction. I just finished reading "The Post-American World" by Fareed Zakaria. Then I turned to fluff in "Summer Sisters" by Judy Blume. I just started "Playing For Pizza" by John Grisham.
I also try to keep up with Time and Newsweek magazines and the editorial page of the daily newspaper.

  4. I LOVE children's books... I think they have such simple moral lessons to them. ie "Hope for the Flowers", the "Narnia" series, "Where The Sidewalk Ends". "Light in The Attic" The Giving Tree" (Shel Silverstein is a favorite. I also like self help books and biographys, some historical novels...I like reading about strong women in history. John Grishom books are usually a good beach read. And, of course, when I slip into a temporary slump, I read a little Calvin and Hobbes and it seems to lighten my mood rather quickly. I'm afraid you aren't going to find any real intellectual reading here.

  5. I love to read also. Right now I am reading "John Adams", and "The Giver". I love all kinds of books. I find such pleasure in so many different stories. Some authors caress you or memorize you with their words, others it's the stories themselves that grab you. Some of my all time favorites are "A Tree Grows In Brooklyn", "The Book Thief", "The Kite Runner" "Jane Eyre" "Night" and so many many more that I have really enjoyed.

  6. I've always loved to read. I do enjoy fiction, but I think I prefer biographies. Right now, I'm reading everything that I can find by/or about Albert Schweitzer.

  7. Okay... .I forgot just how much I enjoy "Markings" by Dag Hammerskold, The writings of Kahlil Gilbran and Herman Hesse. Like Chandi I also liked "Night", and a strange, wierd, little book called "Jitterbug Perfume" that had some great philosophical undercurrents.

That's a little more adult, eh?
