It's My Birthday!

"Well today’s my b-day
And I’m thirty-nine
That’s my story and
I’m sticking with it."
My mom was always
Thirty-nine every b-day
Which was funny
When I was a teenager

I really don’t want to be
Thirty nine again unless
I knew what I know now
Looking back and
Wondering what could
Have been-if only,
Regrets go no where
So I’ll look at growth
That came instead

Divorcing at thirty-five,
Now a single parent
Raising three young sons
Became a new teacher
Of elementary students
Remarriage-begin over
Another son to nurture
Four sons-my life's work

Five grandchildren now
A marvelous blessing
With promises of more
Posterity to come
A full life with lots
Of challenges to
Overcome and
Lessons to learn
From as I progress
In my daily journey

PS My son Daniel above on the left is now 39! Baby Jeff is now 25.

  1. Lin, Happiest Birthday wishes!

I had convinced one of my grandsons that I was 39 until his dad reminded the 6-year-old that he, himself, was 36. It only took a few seconds before Nathan realized that I was spoofing. "Graaandmaaa."

I hope you have better luck getting away with it.

  3. Happy Birthday! I have to agree with not wanting to be a younger age again unless you knew then what you know now.
Buy yourself a b'day present to celebrate...why not??
My mom celebrated many, many 39's!

  7. huuuummmmmmm...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU....and many mooooooore.......

Last year I just told everybody that I was celebrating the 36th anniversary of my 30th birthday.
    Seemed to work out well.

At thirty nine I was in the throws of raising a very young family. I had a 3, 4, 5, and 6 year old. As you know I married late... meeting Wayne when I was 31 and he was 25
Yes, I am six years older than my cute hubby. I risked being an old maid waiting for him to outgrow his scout uniform and acne cream.

I absolutely LOVE the lessons that adjusting to sharing a life with, and completely loving a man and motherhood have taught me! What a joy! Heartache, too, from time to time. But on the whole it has been a delicious experience!

And grandchildren are worth the wait for SURE... but, unlike most of my friends, I can't really say I like being a "Gigi" better than I liked being a mom. (I have no idea where my first grandchild came up with that name for me... but it seems to have been picked up my all of them and stuck.) I still thoroughly enjoy being a mom...

Your life truly has filled and rounded out beautifully, Lin. I think it has to do with your inner spirit more than anything. You always amaze me with your outlook!

  9. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
My birthday is next week, and I'm trying to decide what to do to celebrate it- hmmm.
I have often thought what age I would like to be again, but there is always some reason why that's not a good idea. So I'll stay with getting older - almost 64!

  10. By the way... What fabulous desert did you enjoy to help you celebrate becoming wiser today? Anything special?

  11. Thanks for all the comments. How about 39 squared for my age? For all you who took math back in the eons of time-figure it out.

  12. ignore that last comment, it would make me 1,541 years old, even doubling 39 would make be 78 so guess I'll just stay at 39...for now.
