Learning is Fun

Wow, how exciting I was able to add music to my blog today through the help of my blogging mentor Susi Q who is also family from way back and the closest thing I have to an official sister as we were once sister-in-laws. Friends are wonderful and help you in learning new things and support you when you most need it. I am blessed to have several really close friends that I can share my heart and soul with, plus learn new things from.

Adding music to our lives is so important even though I’m not a musician. Having been a dancer in my younger days, music moves me especially lyrical new age type music. We have our cable input for our tv hooked to a music system so I can turn on the tv to its music channels and have it on the house stereo most of the time. I hate the background noise of TV with it’s blaring commercials and dumb programs but love having music in the house as a background to reading, eating, working and just thinking when we aren’t watching tv. Enjoy the music on my blog or turn off your sound if it isn’t your kind of music.

A question: What kind of music do you like and how does it affect you in your daily life?

  1. The truth of it is.... I like natural sounds. Music to me is:
    The crunch of gravel in the driveway when Wayne returns home from an errand, the dogs playing with each other in the yard, the rush of water in the creek. I love the sound of my kids talking to each other in the next room, the door closing when loved ones come in late at night, the teapot whistling, bathtub water running, the refrigerator door opening and closing. I like the sound of flip flops and bathroom slippers, my family's footsteps no matter where they are and what's on their feet,a neighbor knocking a the door, and the rooster in the yard. Sometimes the music of piano, guitar, harp and violins, or a soothing alto voice, although pleasant, serves to filter out those sounds that bring me the most contentment. So... my favorite music? The soft noises that remind me just how lucky I am. I like enough silence in my world to enable me to hear them often... and well.

  2. Yes... there are moments when I hear Billie Joel sing, "It's my Life" and my feet run away with me. I can't stand still to some happy beats. It's joyous and exhilarating. I absolutely love music that makes me want to move.

    I also love somewhat melancholy songs that build my capacity for compassion, and compositions with great swells of music, (think The Lost Chord, Ave Maria, Rachmaninoff) I like country music with lyrics that make me smile, Music of the 40's, some of the 50's. Heck, I even like some "elevator' music. But, you had asked for my favorite. And my favorite is just what I tried to explain in the prior post.

  3. Music...I just love music. My mom used to comment that she always knew when I was home because there was always music on. I have a wide variety of "likes", so much I couldn't name them all. But I have to congratulate you for adding music to your blog...and so restful, too. some blog tunes drive me crazy and I have to turn the speakers done. Yours is perfect for blog reading.

  4. I love all different types of music. I love songs that make me want to dance. We do that a lot around here. I love songs that tell a good story and make me want to cry. I love corny television theme songs like "Cheers". There is so much music out there to enjoy, but you know what? Sometimes silence is music to my ears. Sweet sweet silence.

  5. I love music! I've decided that every morning before school, we'd sing a song and have family prayer. It's been great!

  7. Mom;
    I grow up listening classical music and jazz and Turkish music. I love the opera but not new stuff ( old ones like puccini,wagner ect.) my favorite composers are Bach, Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Bruch. They make me feel calm and peaceful. But I do listen Nine inch nails, rage against machine. I don't think it is something you or my son would want to listen :) Oh world music is really beautiful to listen, I love podcasts, I just hook my comptr. to some african or asian channel and listen away. Music is food for souls..
